The holiday season is always a joyous time at Amica Care, and this year was no exception. We hosted the annual Christmas competition across our five care homes, judged on choir singing, decorations, and importantly - delicious cakes! Our CEO Keren Wilkinson and member of trustees John Whittaker embarked on a three-day journey visiting each home and capturing the festive spirit. The impressive effort that went into creating such heartwarming displays truly showcased the dedication and creativity of our residents and staff.

The Results Are In!

A huge congratulations to Signature House for their outstanding choir performance! This year, we were serenaded with festive songs, accompanied by two talented staff members playing guitar and using a remarkable array of props. The residents, along with many staff members, created a wonderful musical event that was loved by all involved. “Enjoyed by all and good enough to go on tour or even on Britain’s Got Talent!” said Keren, who was touched by the amazing performance.

Another heartfelt congratulations to The Orchards for their incredible decorations! They took us through the story of Scrooge, presenting a tree of the past, present, and future. The residents enjoyed making excellent decorations, many of which were crafted from recycled materials. Like each of our homes, their creativity and effort truly shone through, and the visit was filled with festive joy as well as a unique idea in basing the decorations on a famous Christmas tale.

We also awarded a highly commended to St Johns Court for their beautiful decorations. Beccy did an amazing job designing the main tree in the lounge, making it look like, “it belonged in Selfridges”. Additionally, one of the residents’ daughters supported the residents in making natural table centerpieces, which looked equally professional and stunning.

Exmouth and Ernstell House were also brilliant, showcasing their festive spirit and creativity. The Toy Appeal at Exmouth House in partnership with Exmouth Friends in Need was a huge success, and Santa’s workshop with all the donated toys on display was an incredible sight to see. Ernstell, alongside our other homes, provided a marvelous experience with delightful decorations throughout the home and the residents enjoyed a sing along while putting their activities tablet from Plymouth council to good use.

A Festive Journey

In each home, the atmosphere perfectly represented the sense of community, support and joy that we share at Amica Care during festivities and throughout each year. The amount of effort that went into making everything festive and inviting for our residents was exceptional. From the decorations and choirs to the cake and community spirit, everyone had a wonderful time. The care and passion in our community is heartwarming and our Christmas competition perfectly captures the togetherness we feel all year round.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at our homes and everyone involved for their hard work. You are all amazing, and your dedication made this holiday season truly special.

The Final Prize

There is still one prize to be won, the best cake! Good luck to everyone and thank you all for making this Christmas competition a memorable and joyous event. Let’s continue to spread cheer and celebrate the wonderful community we have built together at Amica Care.
