The Orchards celebrates 'Good' CQC rating
The Orchards Nursing Home on Orchard Lane in Crewkerne passed a recent Care Quality Commission inspection with an overall ‘Good’ rating after being praised for operating a safe, responsive, caring, responsive and well-led service.
The CQC inspected the home on 3rd November 2022 and rated the home, run by Amica Care Trust, as ‘Good’ in four areas of the inspection – safe, responsive, caring and well-led and ‘outstanding’ in responsive. The report stated that residents lived in a home where the provider and Home Manager led by example to create a homely, welcoming and fun environment which valued each person as an individual.
The report found that Ruth O’Dea, the Home Manager led by example to make sure residents received care that was personalised to their needs and wishes. A member of staff mentioned that "We want people to live their life, not fit into a home routine. We want people to feel at home." A resident said: "Staff just seem to fit in around you. There is no pressure to do anything you don't want to."
Also highlighted in the report was that residents were supported to maintain contact with people who were important to them and engaged in activities that were socially and culturally relevant to them. Families were involved in events and activities at the home so residents could enjoy these with their relatives. This had included an outdoor circus, quizzes, and birthday celebrations. One visitor said, "I feel like part of The Orchards family." The staff at the home always go the extra mile to create 'Golden moments' for residents. After a visit to the home by various animals one resident, who is cared for in bed, said what they really wanted was to see an elephant. The Home Manager dressed up an elephant and went to visit the person. The photos of this showed how overjoyed the person was. Another person was a fan of a particular music star and the staff managed to find an impersonator to perform for them. One resident commented, "They will go that extra mile if they can do it. It's not very often you see five penguins walking down the corridor, and I have had everything in my room including a dog and a donkey, quizzes are good too."
Ruth O’Dea, Home Manager at The Orchards said: “We are all so proud that our home has received a ‘Good’ rating following our latest CQC inspection and the Outstanding rating in one area is just the cherry on the top. It is fantastic to have the hard work and dedication of everyone at The Orchards recognised. We pride ourselves in offering the best care to our residents, and by providing a friendly and fun place for our resident family to live and for us all to work together in.”
