Amica Care appoints Mental Health First Aiders
Amica Care Trust has recently announced the appointment of Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA) in their care homes and support office. This is a significant step towards prioritising mental health and well-being in the workplace.
Throughout the pandemic, our Amica Care colleagues have all delivered support to others, putting their own needs last. These new roles are to allow care workers to speak about how they are feeling and for our MHFA to support them with their needs. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of providing better mental health and well-being support, particularly for our selfless and dedicated care colleagues who are working on the frontline.
All our MHFAs successfully completed their training and assessment and received their level 3 award in mental health first aid in the workplace. During the 2 day course, our newly qualified MHFA developed an understanding on the importance of positive mental health and well-being in the workplace and the role that everyone plays in recognising mental health issues at work.
Following their training, all MHFAs are equipped to provide initial support to anyone who may be experiencing a mental health problem or emotional distress. They are equipped to provide guidance, as well as listen and provide emotional support. All our MHFAs can be easily recognised by their pin badges, especially designed by the Trust.
By appointing Mental Health First Aiders in their care homes and support office, the Trust is sending a strong message that mental health is a top priority.
